If subscribers can mount such an action great! I keep hoping thousands will turn out in DC and many state capitols to defend democracy and call MAGA out...just as Germans are doing now in their daily/weekly demos against right wing extremism aka the Alternative for Deutschland. We are in deep political trouble in the US and while this trouble did not begin with djt ( much of the current day issues of gridlock and the goal of one party rule began during Nixon's tenure, the ALEC to name one...need more history, watch 13th and read their website) he and the "movement" around him are a clear and present danger to the US and the free world. The russian tyrant and his partners express their glee. And sadly, Garland, who may have even a decent Justice, seems like a deer caught in the headlights. Yes. The NYT has outsized influence. Some of their opinion writers must live pissed off, otherwise there might be a little more grace and humility. We live in times made coarse, brutish, and inhumane. The orange cheato and his crowd of grievance holders have turned over all the rocks releasing a lot of suppressed rage. The danger of djt cannot be ignored. But worse is the absolute silence regarding his think tank army of Federalist Society, Heritage Society, ALEC, Grover Norquist, etc. There are too many to name here.

I agree with this, Linda, especially the penultimate sentence. There really should be relentless focus on the "think" tank squad. Trump is a known quantity, we should know the names of the guys giving the face to face instructions to their paid for members of congress. My modest proposal at the end is only semi-serious. It is an expression of frustration more than anything.

Pulling back the curtain on just how all of these organizations are connected and where the money comes from is critical. I recall first hearing about the A.L.E.C. organization on a Saturday morning NPR program as I was headed to the congregation where I was a pastor at the time. They had already been in business for 30 years! During that period Michigan, my state, was controlled by the gop, and virtually ALL the gop reps and senators were members as were huge business corporations including GM among others. This is one scary group and it is deemed a 501c3 organization. The problem is right wing white supremacy extremism is very much alive and getting stronger. We who are not aligned with this group must build huge multi-racial coalitions and build the capacity to resist what can feel inevitable, especially when reading the NYT, WAPO and others.

My dad subscribed to the Detroit Free Press where he also taught me about box scores for the Tigers and the joys of color comics on Sunday. Listening to a Tigers game on the radio was a good way to spend an afternoon. We subscribed to the Lansing State Journal for Michigan State University sports and local news so there were plenty of stacks of old newspapers around.

The Times does have some explaining to do. Dowd is currently top of the shit list.
